The Bay’s trained music instructors help youth ages 11-14 develop social-emotional and technical skills through the GarageBand app, from beginner to advanced. Beatmaking School is divided into four skill levels, requiring demonstrated technical learning — such as the basic elements of music, working with loops, recording/sampling, and performing — along the way.
Students in Beatmaking School will learn to maximize the full extent of the GarageBand production suite and how to utilize basic principles of audio engineering to go about intentionally designing/iterating their own original music in a 3-D space. Building upon the foundational skills established in The Bay’s renowned after school Beatmaking Club, students will become equipped with fully transferable skills that can be applied to any digital audio workstation they may get their hands on!
Beatmaking School at the Benson Community Center in Omaha is offered seasonally in six-week* sessions, which encourages students to come back every week to hone their technical skills. Registration includes all necessary music equipment, and a signed waiver** is required for all participants.
*In the event of inclement weather, we will extend Beatmaking School by one extra week to account for a makeup session.*

Levels 1-4
This registration is for any/all students, regardless of their skill level. Students will learn everything from the basic elements of music to recording/sampling to exporting/sharing their favorite beats with their class. Graduates of Level 4 will also receive their own special prize from The Bay to continue their music journey!
